The Perama Port Authority proceeded with the arrest of four people, after yesterday’s labor accident that occurred in the Perama shipbuilding repair zone, which resulted in the loss of one person’s life and two other serious injuries.
It is about the ship’s master, the safety technician – supervisor of workers’ health and safety measures, the employer of the crane operator and the representative of the company that carried out the repair work.
The incident occurred when, during operations to extract the fin using a crane vehicle, from a ship under repair, it was ejected and disconnected from its transport hook and then fell onto an existing scaffold on which four people were carrying out the work, resulting in the injury of the 47-year-old operator of the crane vehicle and also the injury of a 47-year-old and a 43-year-old.
The 47-year-old operator of the crane vehicle was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead. One of the injured is being treated at “Tzanio” hospital and the other at a private hospital.
The Minister of Shipping and Island Policy Theodoros Kliaris was informed of the incident and ordered an immediate investigation into the causes and circumstances of the accident.
At the same time, he contacted the relatives of the deceased expressing his warm and sincere condolences as well as his regret for the incident, while wishing a speedy recovery to the injured.
