Athens appears determined to deflect a Commission proposal for a pan-European reduction in the consumption of natural gas, while at the same time tabling an alternative proposal.
According to government officials on Monday, a day ahead of a Council of EU energy minister, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis will present his government’s proposal for a pan-European mechanism that reduces natgas consumption by industry by offering compensation.
The aim to allow Europe to face losses in case of the supply of Russian natural gas is stopped.
