New arrears by households and businesses in Greece over the January-November 2022 period reached 7.317 billion euros, with 475 million euros owed to the tax bureau left unpaid in November alone.

According to figures released by the Independent Authority for Public Revenue, total arrears owed to the Greek state and social security funds still hovers at 113 billion euros, although a large chunk of this figure involves debts dating back decades, and number legal entities now longer in operation, along with economically inactive taxpayers, including many deceased citizens.

As such, 26.27 billion euros is designated as uncollectable, although this figure also appears low.

Nearly 4.1 million taxpayers and legal entities owe at least one euro to the tax bureau. Of the latter, 2.045 million face possible seizure of assets, while 1.406 million have enforcement collection measure imposed on them.
