Greek Development & Investments Minister Adonis Georgiadis on Monday, during debate in Parliament, said a recent wave of price hikes in Greece is a “temporary phenomenon”, in answer to a tabled question by 56 main opposition SYRIZA MPs regarding the inflation rate.

Georgiadis said the government estimates that inflationary pressures will ease by Christmas, while the inflation rate in the country is lower than corresponding European countries.

“The problem is not domestic, but it is an imported phenomenon,” he said, reminding of a provision in place preventing businesses from selling at a higher profit margin than the one they enjoyed in February 2020, the period before the pandemic.
