The first drone cargo shipments to Greek isles now appears on the horizon, following an understanding between the general secretariat for the Aegean – part of the island policy and shipping ministry – with the firms Golden Cargo and Dronamics.
According to reports, the inaugural flight will take place with the large Cyclades isle of Naxos, with a possible touch down on Chios, further to the east.
The first drone shipment is part of the initiative Naxos Smart Island, implemented by Amazon Web Services.
The aim of the initiative is to provide the best possible service to residents in geographic areas cut off from the mainland.
Dronamics is the first airline in the world to acquire an operation license in Europe for transporting cargo with drones. Golden Cargo has assumed the role of the latter’s general sales and service agent (GSSA) for Greece and Cyprus.
