Some 29 foreign nationals, identified as irregular migrants, were rescued by the Hellenic Coast Guard off the southern coast of Crete on Saturday, the state run broadcaster reported. According to other reports, the irregular migrants are Egyptian nationals.

According to claims by some members of the group, a dinghy carrying them set off from northeast Libya in order to clandestinely reach Greece before the coast guard located them.

A 43-year-old man was identified by the undocumented migrants as the trafficker. He was arrested on suspicion of illegal entry and exit, as well as migrant smuggling.
