“The fence on Evros will be finished” with or without European money, announced Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis from Gerakas and a day before his visit to Evros.
“I will have the opportunity to sign the extension of the fence project that shielded Evros and the homeland from illegal immigration invasions,” he said while speaking to the citizens.
On the occasion of the amendment promoted by the SYRIZA MEP, Dimitris Papadimoulis, to block the European financing of the project, Kyriakos Mitsotakis said “I want to remind who are the ones who supported it and who are still facing this difficult effort for the country to secure its borders. Just yesterday a SYRIZA MEP supported an amendment asking Europe not to finance the Evros project. There is no need for condemnation, but judgment. With or without European money, the fence on the Evros will be finished.”
As he underlined, in fact, “as a result of the Greek intervention, Europe is changing its attitude and recognizes the importance attributed at the European level to the protection of the European borders”.
Referring to the May 21 elections, Kyriakos Mitsotakis said that “today in Greece there is only one convincing proposal for governance and that is a strong New Democracy party the day after at the helm of the country. And because we’ve been hearing a lot. Whetehr during the first or second ballot box. Right now there is a ballot box in front of us. It’s the ballot box of May 21. A strong New Democracy in this ballot box will determine who will govern for the next four years, which party and who the citizens ultimately want as prime minister.”
He added that the central dilemma of these elections is “who will assume the responsibility of governing the country, who will represent Greece abroad, who will sit in the position that belongs to Greece, in the European Council, who will negotiate with the European Union . These choices are critical” and he added “who will stand up to a neighbor who has shown that he can be very aggressive with us, but who can also talk to a neighbor under the conditions that we can actually find a common ground with always guided by international law”.
