US ambassador Geoffrey Pyatt on Wednesday took to Twitter to comment on the dozens of wildfires that erupted around Greece over the past two days, including a bevy of major blazes that come amid the worst heat wave to scorch the country in nearly 35 years.
“As our Greek allies face the challenges of a heatwave, fires, evacuations & destruction of property, I offer my admiration for your courage & gratitude to firefighters, Hellenic armed forces personnel, police, gov’t leaders & volunteers working to keep all of us safe,” was the Tweet by the high-profile top US envoy in Greece.
