The General Secretariat of Labor Relations in Greece has released an informational circular addressing various questions about the implementation of the Digital Work Card in the Industry and Retail sectors.
This measure, effective for these sectors since January 1, 2024, will see full implementation by July 1, 2024, and will gradually extend to all businesses nationwide.
Already in use by employees in banks, large supermarkets, insurance companies, security firms, and public utilities, the Digital Work Card aims to safeguard workers’ rights. The ERGANI II information system will facilitate the recording of schedule changes and overtime.
Moreover, the option to implement six-day work weeks has been activated for businesses that operate continuously or already function 24/7, 5 or 6 days a week.
This new six-day work week initiative starting July 1, targets the reduction of undeclared and underreported work while boosting workers’ incomes, as wages for the sixth day will be increased by 40%. Moreover, compensation escalates to 115% for work done on Sundays or public holidays under the new legislation.
