Retail sales volume in Greece grew by 12.3 percent in March 2022 despite the fact that almost half of retail categories reported a decline in turnover, Hellenic Statistical Authority (EL.STAT) announced on Tuesday.

Specifically, sales volume increased in supermarkets (12.5 percent), the furniture- appliances-home equipment (6.2 percent) sector, department stores (1.2 percent) and food-alcohol-tobacco (0.8 percent).

Conversely, sales dropped in clothing-footwear (28.1 percent), fuels-lubricants (3 percent) and pharmaceuticals-cosmetics (0.5 percent).

The retail sales volume index – turnover in fixed prices – grew by 12.3 percent in March 2022, compared with March 2021, although up by 2.3 percent from the previous month, February 2022.

The seasonally-adjusted index rose 1.8 percent in March from February 2022. The retail sales turnover index (turnover in current prices) grew by 20.2 percent in March 2022 from March 2021, and by 5.6 percent from February 2022. The seasonally-adjusted index rose 2.7 percent in March from February 2022.
