Greece launched a new digital platform on Friday designed to let citizens track the progress of requests submitted to government agencies and municipalities, in what officials described as a significant step toward reducing bureaucratic delays and improving transparency in public administration.

The platform, politis.gov.gr, was presented Thursday June 4 by Deputy Prime Minister Kostis Hatzidakis, Digital Governance Minister Dimitris Papastergiou, Deputy Interior Minister Vivi Charalampogianni, and Dimosthenis Anagnostopoulos, secretary general for information systems and digital governance.

Users log in with their Taxisnet credentials, the same username and password already used for Greece’s national tax authority portal, and can monitor any pending application in real time, seeing which agency holds it, the relevant contact information and an estimated completion date. The functionality applies to requests submitted from June 1, 2026 onward.

The system was developed by the Ministry of Digital Governance under Law 5293/2026, a legislative framework for a more citizen-friendly state passed in late April. It covers all public bodies and municipal services.

How it works

When a citizen submits a request to any public agency, the system generates a unique case number and a corresponding QR code. Both are sent automatically to the citizen’s email address. From that point, the citizen can log in to politis.gov.gr to track every stage of the application, including any transfers to a different agency, without needing to call or physically visit the relevant office.

The platform also introduces disciplinary consequences for civil servants and their supervisors who fail to comply with the new registration requirements.

What officials said

Hatzidakis called the platform “a small revolution in the way public administration operates,” saying it represents one of the most significant interventions in the new legislative framework for modernizing the state.

Papastergiou framed the launch as a fundamental shift in the relationship between the state and the individual. “Trust between the state and the citizen comes to the fore,” he said, adding that public agencies now bear greater responsibility for seeking out and using information they already hold, thereby reducing the burden placed on citizens.

Charalampogianni described the platform as a meaningful upgrade in the quality of transactions between citizens and public administration. Anagnostopoulos said politis.gov.gr “offers better organization for the public sector and real benefit for the citizen.”
