The husband of 20-year-old Caroline Crouch, who was murdered in her home early last month, on Thursday reportedly admitted that he asphyxiated his wife, with the motive, according to Greek police, being her threats to leave him with their 11-month-old daughter.
Charalambos “Babbis” Anagnostopoulos, 32, had come under discreet but intense police and media scrutiny since the murder in early May, initially attributed by the now arrested man to a trio of robbers that broke into their condominium before dawn.
Numerous media reports in Greece on Thursday claimed that authorities presented Anagnostopoulos, a commercial pilot, with evidence from cell phone data, surveillance cameras and even the victim’s smart watch, which, again according to unconfirmed reports, showed her heart beat stop hours being he claimed the break-in occurred.
The shocking case has generated international attention, especially in the British press, as the victim was a UK citizen raised on the Greek isle of Alonissos.
