The departing year was difficult and rife with challenges but also replete with successes, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said in his New Year’s message, while referring to a “medical miracle” in the form of the vaccines developed to combat Covid-19 infection.
Mitsotakis said that on the last day of 2021, roughly 80 percent of adults in the country have been vaccinated, even as the now prevalent and more contagious Omicron variant spreads across the world.
“The next few weeks will bring ups and downs, but we have the opportunity to leave behind the storm and lead our country to calmer waters, as long as we remain united, mature and careful,” he added.
