The station master at the center of a preliminary criminal investigation into Tuesday night’s deadly train collision in north-central Greece has allegedly admitted to making a critical mistake when attempting to shift tracks, media reports in the country claimed on Wednesday afternoon.

Charges, possibly felony counts, are expected to be filed on Thursday by prosecutors investigating the rail disaster, with the official death toll still standing at 36, a figure, however, that is expected to rise.

Following a written directive by the head of the supreme court prosecutor’s office on Wednesday morning, the judicial investigation into the accident is now a top-priority case.
