For 2022, 55 arrivals from 11 different cruise companies with 15 different cruise ships have already been confirmed, which are scheduled to start on February 5, earlier than ever. 55% of 2022 cruise arrivals will be homeport arrivals which means 30 homeport arrivals. Among the companies that will dock at the port of Thessaloniki with their ships, are Celestyal Cruise, Azamara, Norwegian Cruise Line, Viking Cruise, Celebrity Cruises etc.
Also in 2021 compared to 2019, given that 2020 was essentially a “dead” year for the cruise industry due to a pandemic, in Thessaloniki the passengers more than doubled, + 142%, while the port from 26th in the number of passengers in 2019 was 14th in 2021 and the number of arrivals from 36th in 2019 stood at 18th in 2021.
Finally, arrivals almost tripled from 6 in 2019 to 17 in 2021.
The port of Thessaloniki has dynamically entered the map of the cruise industry – and rightly so, because it is in a strategic geographical position, given that it is one of the few ports in the world where the cruise point is in the heart of the city, with Thessaloniki at the same time at a very close distance from very important sights and monuments of Northern Greece,” as stated by the executive president of Thessaloniki Port Authority Thanasis Liagos.
