Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Tuesday afternoon received the visiting UAE minister of industry and advanced technology, Sultan bin Ahmad Sultan Al Jaber, the latest high-level contact between Athens and the pre-eminent Gulf State.
As expected, investment opportunities for UAE investors in Greece and the prospect of deeper commercial ties dominated talks during the meeting, while the need for the preservation of stability, peace and security in the wider region was emphasized.
The pro-reform and pro-business Mitsotakis government has signaled and followed through with a distinctive pivot towards the Middle East over the past two years, attempting to renew and reinvigorate ties with governments in the wider region.
Mitsotakis also thanked Al Jaber for the assistance provided by the UAE to Greece over the summer in the face of an outbreak of devastating wildfires in the country.
Finally, the Greek premier again extended – via the minister – an invitation towards Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the crown prince of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, to officially visit Greece.
