Nine in 10 new Covid-19 infections now recorded in Greece are caused by the Omicron variant, Alternate Health Minister Mina Gaga told reporters on Wednesday.
Gaga, a trained pulmonologist, said that on Dec. 30, 2021 the Omicron variant accounted for 82 percent of all new infections, with the rate climbed to 89 percent the next day.
Gaga also announced that new vaccination appointments will soon become available, while people preferring the Moderna vaccine will be able to do so on Sundays as well.
Responding to press questions, she said it is likely that private-sector physicians will be sent requisition orders to take up duties in private hospitals on Friday.
In terms of the vaccination program in the country, 270,000 openings for people aged 12 and over are now available online for the next 10 days.
