
Greece’s tops this year’s summer holiday preferences for Italian tourists, according to Italy’s Confturismo, the largest body representing the tourism sector in Italy, and the General Federation of Italian Merchants and Shopkeepers (Confcommercio).
Spain and France are in second and third place, respectively.
According to the two trade bodies, two out of 10 Italians are expected to travel abroad this summer.
Apulia, Sicily, Tuscany, Sardinia and Calabria are the top choices for in-country holidays.
Meanwhile, back in Greece, available figures for arrivals by air to the five international airports in the southern Aegean (Mykonos, Santorini, Rhodes, Kos and Karpathos) last month, June, point to the prospect of 2022 exceeding 2019’s record-breaking numbers for the southern Aegean and Dodecanese.
