On the occasion of World Cities Day on October 31, 2022, the Municipality of Athens extends an open invitation to artists, architects, graphic artists, cartoonists, designers and other creators to submit their proposals on how they imagine their city in the future!
“Cities are capacitors of the major social challenges facing Europe today. So how do we imagine the future will play out? In what ways can urban centers become more welcoming, sustainable and energy independent in an era of climate and environmental crisis as well as overpopulation? Can phenomena of social exclusion be addressed with spatial tools? What are the current possibilities and biggest challenges or limitations to the experience of the city for the local community?’ referred to in the relevant announcement.
Proposals
And it is added that the proposals – utopian, dystopian, hypothetical, descriptive, exploratory, provocative, critical and reflective – which will be selected by a committee formed by experts in the field of visual arts, graphic design and architecture, will be presented in the form of posters in the outdoor space, at the stands along the Vasilissis Olga Ave. sidewalk.
The report, which will be presented in October and November of this year, will act as an open archive, documenting discussions, exchanges and interventions in order to then produce a printed version.
Deadlines
Those interested are invited to send their works in JPG/TIFF format as well as their contact information to the email address: cityhallculture@cityofathens.gr by Sunday, September 18, 2022.
