European Commissioner for Economy Paolo Gentiloni on Wednesday referred to what he called Europe’s, and particularly Greece’s economic progress over the past year, speaking at an online conference organized by the European Commission and the Athens-based Foundation for Economic & Industrial Research (IOBE), entitled “Greece and the EU Recovery and Resilience Facility”.

Gentiloni participated in a virtual panel with Greek FinMin Christos Staikouras and IOBE general director Prof. Nikos Vettas.

In other comments, the European Commissioner said the forecast for the Eurozone and the global economy, at the previous such conference in July 2020, was very different.

“We have made great progress over the interim period,” he said.

Referring to Greece, he said that in the post-crisis years the country has managed to follow a good course, with unemployment, among others, dropping significantly, albeit still high.
