Some 260,000 tourist arrivals from Germany were recorded last month, Greek Tourism Minister Haris Theoharis announced on Tuesday, speaking at the regular general assembly of the German Hellenic Chamber of Industry and Commerce in Athens.

In taking the “longer view”, Theoharis reminded that Germany is the biggest market for Greece’s tourism and travel sector, with German citizens again expected to be first among visitors for 2021.

The figure for last year, amid a pandemic-plagued season, was roughly 1.5 million arrivals from Germany, with corresponding revenues at 1.13 billion euros.

A year earlier, in record-breaking 2019, the same figure exceeded four million arrivals from Germany and tourism-related remittances of four billion euros.

He expressed guarded optimism over the current season, saying the UK market is now showing signs of significant movement.
